The Reno Balloon Races

On my roommate's whim, we went to the Balloon Races this morning. I took a couple hundred more pictures, including a series I turned into this time-lapse sunrise (only in retrospect did I think of a close telephoto. D'oh!

It was fun, up until some wasps decided to use me as a stinger-cushion. The good news is, it doesn't look like I'm allergic. The bad news is, well, it hurts. Oh well.

The Reno Balloon Races are my favorite Reno special event, by far. They just make me happy.

I was going to offer an alternative - the Sparks Rib Cookoff - bu that's Sparks, not Reno. The only Reno alternatives seem like the Air Races and Hot August Nights.

The Balloon Races are definitely my favorite of the three. From your parent's house, there's a pretty good view into the valley. Did you ever watch the races from there? From the Northwest, alas, there's hills in the way, unless the winds are blowing our way.

I like the last one a lot. We split immediately after the glowing balloons took off. Next time if I remember Grant's breakfast maybe we'll stay longer. Did you put your stuff in RGJ.com? There's a photo contest you know!

I didn't know! Thanks!

Hey, my family and I were there Sunday morning too! We were right by the AllState Balloon during Dawn patrol. We stayed for the mass assention too. I took my nephew and we walked around to get a closer look at the balloons all inflating. I was dissapointed that the shape balloons were so few this year. The Noah's Ark was the one I was most sad to not see there this year. It was the balloon that represented abused children. The Jesus balloon was not there either, nor some of the old faves like the cheeseburger, JackDaniels bottle, the big truck, and the Energizer bunny was not there Sunday. It was there Fri, and Sat. I did this venture twice this year, once with my fam, and Friday I went into work early to take the little girl I nanny. I would add one of my pics, but I don't know how, so I will try to post them on my page. Too bad we didn't run into each other. By the way, the bees were by far the cutest balloons ever! Especially when they kissed! Very, very cool. OH! I also saw that Jack in the Box was sponsering a balloon. Wouldn't Jack's head make a cool balloon?

We probably walked within 20 feet of the Allstate balloon while looking for a place during Dawn Patrol. We settled in farther away, but it was dark and I was laden with camera stuff. I wouldn't have seen another girl from church at all if she hadn't said hi when we walked about 3 feet in front of her.

It was 4am and I was oblivious to pretty much everything except where to place my next step. Heck, I'm usually that way until about noon anyway...

I've watched them from my parent's deck with a spotting scope. Pretty fun, but nothing beats heading up to Rancho San Rafael with your back to the sun.

your comment about not being coherrent at 4am is funny. Mostly because that is what the two guys, my brother and his friend, said to us... over, and over, and over again.
