Social Security

Evidently, more than twice as many Generation X people (of which I am very, very tail-end) believe in UFO's than that they will receive Social Security Benefits.

I find that both interesting and altogether reasonable.

So our son Ansel just got his Social Security card a few days ago. Any guesses on what his odds are of getting any benefits when he retires?

Interesting. I too wonder about whether Social Security will be there for me when I'm older....

UFO's? What kind of comparison is that?

The UFO comparison comes about because the poll is a very general one, gauging all sorts of preferences, thoughts, and opinions.

Social Security may well be around, but the pay-to-benefit ratio is bad and will get worse, because nobody has the political will to touch it in any percieved-as-bad way.

It's the same problem as the Big 3 car companies have had with unfunded liabilities in pensions and retiree health benefits... but with the power to tax workers (and imprison "strikers") behind it.
